MyComputerCareer is an IT career education provider that trains individual learners and serves corporate clients who want to upskill their teams. Like many training businesses, it sells access to learning through an online store and delivers that learning through a separate learning management system. In its case the store ran on Shopify and course delivery ran on the Percipio LMS, while a learner-facing platform called Upskill Academy sat alongside both.
Those systems did not talk to each other. Staff tracked subscriptions, enrollments and account activations by hand, and the Upskill Academy front end had fallen behind learner expectations. With an implementation partner, MyComputerCareer delivered an eight-week project that built an API-driven integration between Shopify and Percipio and redesigned Upskill Academy with B2B features and an AI chatbot. The result is a commerce-to-learning flow in which a purchase turns into access automatically and administrators can see what is happening across subscriptions and student progress.
About MyComputerCareer
MyComputerCareer focuses on preparing people for careers in information technology. Its audience has two distinct halves: individuals paying for their own training and organisations buying training for employees. Each group expects different things from the buying and learning experience. Individuals want a quick, clear checkout and immediate access, while corporate clients need role-based access, corporate payment options and smoother onboarding for multiple learners. Serving both from one digital ecosystem is what made the integration work necessary.
The Challenge
The first problem was disconnection. Because the Shopify store and the Percipio LMS operated separately, administrators had to manually record each subscription, enroll each learner and activate each account. That manual handling produced data discrepancies between systems, slowed the time between purchase and access, and created room for error at exactly the moment a new learner is most eager to begin.
The second problem was the learner platform itself. Upskill Academy had a dated front end and high bounce rates. Its subscription and checkout flows were inefficient, it lacked the B2B capabilities corporate clients needed, and it offered no automated help for the common questions that learners ask repeatedly. The organisation needed both better plumbing behind the scenes and a better experience in front of the learner.
- Shopify store and Percipio LMS running in isolation with no shared data
- Manual tracking of subscriptions, enrollments and account activations
- Data discrepancies and slow turnaround between purchase and course access
- A dated Upskill Academy front end with high bounce rates and inefficient checkout
- Limited B2B features and no automated support for frequent learner questions
The Solution
The project ran on two tracks. One built middleware to synchronise Shopify and Percipio in near real time and unify authentication. The other rebuilt Upskill Academy with a modern interface, corporate capabilities and an AI chatbot. Both were planned together so that the commerce, learning and support experiences would behave as one system.
Shopify and Percipio middleware
An API-driven middleware layer, built as Node.js and Express microservices and containerised with Docker, synchronises data between Shopify and the Percipio LMS in near real time. It uses the Shopify REST and GraphQL APIs and webhooks for subscription events, together with Percipio's RESTful endpoints, so that purchases and subscription changes flow through to course access without staff intervention.
Unified authentication
SAML 2.0 single sign-on and AWS Cognito identity management give learners one login across the store and the learning environment. Service-to-service traffic is secured with JWT, and data in transit is protected with TLS, which matters when personal and corporate learner data moves between platforms.
Rebuilt Upskill Academy with B2B features
The Upskill Academy front end was redesigned with Liquid templates and Tailwind CSS alongside a modern JavaScript framework. Corporate capabilities include role-based access, corporate payment options and multi-currency gateways, while bi-directional HubSpot CRM sync and DocuSign support the sales and onboarding process for business clients.
AI chatbot for learner support
An NLP-based chatbot trained on historical support data answers common learner questions. Scheduling and reminder services complement it, so routine queries and appointment logistics no longer depend entirely on staff time.
Resilient, observable infrastructure
Redis caching and RabbitMQ background queues absorb load, AWS Lambda handles serverless functions, and the ELK Stack, AWS CloudWatch and PagerDuty provide logging and alerting. GitLab CI pipelines automate builds, and load testing was carried out before launch.
Implementation Journey
The engagement was delivered over eight weeks in three phases. Planning and knowledge transfer covered system audits, mapping of API endpoints, definition of KPIs, and stakeholder interviews and surveys to separate the needs of individual learners from those of corporate clients. Development and testing produced the authentication, subscription and data-sync microservices, the redesigned interface with prototypes, the trained chatbot and the serverless integrations, followed by integration, load and security testing. Deployment used a blue-green rollout on AWS to avoid downtime, with a technical handbook handed over for ongoing maintenance. The Upskill Academy changes were released in phases to corporate partners.
The Results
The published case study does not release percentages or dollar figures, so the outcomes are described qualitatively. According to the source, real-time synchronisation between Shopify and Percipio removed most of the manual work and reduced data errors, while the redesigned Upskill Academy improved subscription conversions and learner retention, lowered bounce rates and reduced support costs through the chatbot. Corporate onboarding became faster, and administrators gained visibility they previously lacked.
- Manual tracking of subscriptions, enrollments and activations largely eliminated through real-time sync
- Fewer data discrepancies between the Shopify store and the Percipio LMS
- Improved subscription conversions and learner retention reported after the Upskill Academy redesign
- Lower bounce rates and reduced support costs, with the chatbot handling common questions
- Faster enterprise onboarding through role-based access, corporate payments and CRM integration
- New administrator visibility into subscription and student-progress metrics
Key Takeaways for Growing Businesses
Connect purchase to access
For any business selling digital learning, the moment between payment and first login shapes the customer's impression. Automating that hand-off between the store and the delivery platform removes errors and lets staff focus on learners instead of data entry.
Plan for two audiences
MyComputerCareer separated the needs of individual learners and corporate clients during discovery. Growing training providers that serve both consumers and businesses benefit from designing distinct journeys, such as role-based access and corporate payments, on top of one shared system.
Build for visibility
Integration delivered more than efficiency: it gave administrators a clear view of subscriptions and progress. Treating reporting as a design goal, not a by-product, helps leaders make decisions with reliable data as the business grows.
